WHY TREES MATTER
Trees are essential for people, wildlife & the environment. They provide a myriad of ecosystem services—from oxygen production to soil preservation—and countless varieties of flora and fauna depend on woodland for food and shelter.

WE NEED TO ACT NOW
46,000-58,000 square miles of forest are lost per year. That's equivalent to 48 soccer fields every single minute. Earth has now lost approximately one third of its woodland already, half of which occurred in just the last 100 years.

HABITAT LOSS
As the planet’s forest cover disappears, so does its wildlife, and with it, all hope of humanity’s survival. Wild creatures work with their natural ecosystems, and in doing so, help support the lives or billions of people around the world. But over one million non-human species are already facing mass extinction in the near future.
PLANT TREES 👇Help us reforest the world
Plant Based News is partnered with Eden Reforestation Projects because repairing woodland is an essential part of fighting climate change and delaying ecological collapse. That’s why we’ve set a target of one million trees by 2035, but we need your help to make it happen. Donate below to directly fund reforestation efforts around the world!

Frequently asked
questions
Here are some of our FAQ's regarding our tree planting scheme...
Where does the money I donate go?
A percentage of your donation goes directly to supporting reforestation projects in the areas that need them most —rebuilding precious ecosystems and creating long-term jobs in communities around the world. A percentage also goes towards Plant Based News, which covers our tree-planting campaign and overall operation, including our environmental education efforts.
Who actually plants the trees?
Eden Reforestation Projects employs local community members in each area to collect seeds, maintain nurseries, plant trees, and then carefully guard the emerging forests. As noted on the ERP website, the majority of those employed by the organization are in need of work and/or have a personal stake in reforestation efforts.
“Our teams have a great commitment to reforestation and a sense of ownership to protect their forests long-term,” says Eden Reforestation Projects.
How long do forests take to recover?
This is a big question. In the short term, planting new trees simply does not replace the intrinsic value of old growth forest, but over time, the true worth of today’s reforestation efforts could be the difference between humanity’s survival or extinction.
Growth speed also varies from region to region and species to species. For example, tropical forests can regain the bulk of their old-growth features in as little as 20 years, while the full complexity of wildlife and other foliage returns after 25 to 60. The important thing is to act now by planting new trees and ceasing destruction of the old.
Where else does Eden Reforestation Projects plant to operate?
ERP currently has plans for new sites in Belize, Guatemala, Tanzania, and Zambia. With the specific challenges that arise in deforested areas, from bandits to unpredictable wildlife, setting up new sites is time consuming and labor intensive. Another reason why your donations are so important in keeping this work going!
How else can I help reforestation efforts?
Tree planting has huge potential to mitigate climate change, and there are lots of ways to get involved. The most direct, and arguably most effective, is to support existing reforestation efforts in the areas they are most needed. Donate here to support the Plant Based News x Eden Reforestation Project campaign.
If you want to take action locally, planting trees locally (either on your property or elsewhere) is another meaningful way to contribute. Just make sure that what you plant is a good fit with your local ecosystem, will thrive, and that you can provide maintenance and aftercare to maximize its health and impact. Learn more here.
